About your doula

My Approach
I believe postpartum care is about so much more than changing diapers or folding baby laundry (though we’ll do plenty of that, too!). It’s about:
-Helping you feel confident as a parent
-Making space for you to rest and recover
-Supporting partners and siblings as they adjust
-Bringing warmth, encouragement, and a touch of calm into your home
Every family has their own rhythm and values. My role isn’t to tell you how to parent—it’s to support your parenting style with compassion and respect.
Claire Segura
Certified Postpartum Doula
Hi! I’m Claire, mom of 4 wild and wonderful kids, educator and certified postpartum doula. As a doula and parent mentor, I bring practical support, compassion and client-centered care to help families flourish.
There is so much joy in the chaos, success in the steep the learning curve and growth as a person and a parent during the postpartum period. I am truly honored to walk with familes on their journey into parenthood. During every visit with families I see how valuable postpartum support is - all parents need validation, compassion, rest, education and encouragement. There are so many ways to be a good parent and I am there to give you the evidence-based information and support to make the choices that are best for your family - and to let you know if one thing doesn't work for you, you can always change your mind!
My Training & Experience
I’ve completed extensive doula training and workshops to bring families the best care possible, including: postpartum nutrition, lactation and pumping support, babywearing, tongue tie education, supporting NICU families, and more. I’m also CPR certified and carry professional liability insurance for your peace of mind.
Before becoming a doula, I worked in education for many years—as a teacher, parent educator, interpreter, and mentor, both here in Washington and internationally in Peru. Teaching and mentoring have always been at the heart of my work, and they continue to shape the way I walk with families today.
mamababy is a term that comes from the Swahili "mamatoto". In Swahili, as well as in many cultures around the world there is a word, that we don't have in English, that refers to the mother-baby dyad in the fourth trimester. The word reflects the continued one-ness of mother and baby during this time and the need for both to be cared for.
This concept is a beautiful reflection of the birth of both the baby and of the woman as a mother. As a doula, I ensure that the new mother receives physical and emotional support as they enter motherhood, as well infant care education. Baby is expertly cared for so that mama can rest or attend to other things.
In addition to mamababy, the whole family unit is changing so dad, siblings (and even pets!) deserve support, education and time to bond with the new member of the family. Each member of the family receives personalized doula support that matches their needs and changing roles in the family.

What is mamababy?

A postpartum doula provides non-medical physical, informational, and emotional support in the postpartum period. The primary role of the doula is to help the family make a smooth adjustment and educate parents so they feel confident in caring for their newborn. Although postpartum doulas make recommendations according to and follow the standards American Association of Pediatricians, they acknowledge and support families as they develop and determine their own parenting style.
